Nanjing Forestry University

Nanjing Forestry University (NFU, 南京林业大学) was initially founded by merging two forest departments of Jinling University (founded in 1888) and Central University (founded in 1902) in 1952, under the name of the Nanjing Forestry College. In 1955 the college merged again a number of forest divisions from Wuhan University, Nanchang University and Hubei Agricultural College. The university was renamed with the current name in 1985 under the approval from the Ministry of Education of the State Council. |

NFU is located in Lonpan Road of Nanjing City and is a comprehensive university, mainly focusing on the subjects relevant to art, management, sciences and technologies in the fields of forest and environment. The university is comprised of 15 schools and 37 departments and total number of students is at present approximately 25,000.
The university has a workforce of 1,100 teaching and researching staff and professorships, including two most respected academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, six academicians appointed by other international higher learning bodies. NFN receives a significant research funding from various sources including from the central government, the forest ministry and provincial administration, in which it has carried out more than 500 diverse research projects in total.
NFU has established an extensive international exchange network with approximately 50 universities and research institutions from more than 20 countries or regions worldwide. By cooperating with universities of Canada, Singapore, NFU has established numerous special exchange programs than include the University of Alberta, the University of Toronto, and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts. With these programs students of NFU can exchange with students from one of the above mentioned universitie so that they can study in a different environment to enhance their knowledge and career. The university accepts international students.
The current university president is Dr. Shiyuan Yu, a professor and an eminent research scientist in the field of the forest source and chemical processing engineering. |
