By merging two contemporary polytechnics, NUT (南京工业大学, 原南京化工大学与原南京建筑工程学院) inherites the traditions of two well-known schools established in the early of the twenty century, the Sanjiang Normal School (1902) and the Tongji Medical and Engineering School (1915).
The university has two campuses, the New Mofan Road Campus and the Jiangpu Campus.
NUT is a prestigious higher learning institution at the provincial level. The university could principally be classified as a polytechnic but over years it has added numerous new schools to its scope, including schools of economics, administration, sciences, humanity, philosophy, literature, law and medicine.
NUT is comprised of 19 schools and has a total enrolled student number of 23,000. The workforce for teaching and researching facilities is over 2,300, including three most respected academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering. The university was ranked 49th among all the higher learning institutions (more than 1,000) in China for its research funding.
The university has established its international exchange program and accepts international student applicants for undergraduate and graduate educations.
The current university president is Prof. Pingkai Ouyang, an outstanding scientist and academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering in the field of chemical engineering. |
