Nanjing Medical University


Nanjing Medical University (NMU, 南京医科大学) was originally established in 1934 in Zhenjiang City, which was the provincial capital of Jiangsu Province, China, at the time.

 History and Heritage
Initially named the National Jiangsu Medical College, the early medical school was relocated to Nanjing in 1957 and renamed Nanjing Medical College. In 1993 under the approval of the State Educational Committee, it was again renamed with the current title. The university is one of the top universities in Jiangsu.

The university has two major campuses, the Wutai and the Jiangning campuses. The Wutai campus, situated next to the renowned Wutai Mountain Sports Center, is the oldest campus of the university and is now designated for scientific research and graduate education. The Jiangning campus is a new university estate. It was established in 2003 in the well-known Jiangning university campus town, and is primarily involved in undergraduate education.

NMU has fifteen schools, eighteen affiliated hospitals, and more than thirty teaching hospitals. The university’s medical education sponsors five to seven-year programs for a wide range of medical professional careers. Research training for example, requires three years to accuire a master’s degree and an additional three years for a doctorate. The combined enrollment for all schools, reaches approximately 10,000 students annually.

The workforce of the university is around 1,400. This includes full time professors, associates or assistant professors, research scientists, MDs, and other teaching staff. There is an abundance of research funding provided from diverse sources of national, ministerial, provincial and municipal levels.

The university has established a very widespread exchange network. Many international academic communities are involved, including universities, research centers and hospitals from all over the world. The United States, Japan, Canada, France, Germany, the UK, Austria, and Australia are all apart of this vast network.

NMU has launched its international programs since 2003, with a specific focus of accepting more international applicants. These programs include an array of degrees, fellowships, or advanced training. At present, there are over 500 international students currently enrolled at NMU.

Sanjiang University is the first private institution of higher education registered in Jiangsu Province and is located in Nanjing City. The university consists of 18 academic departments including English, Japanese, Business Management, Law, Tourism, Computer Science & Technology, Civil Engineering, and Architecture.
