China Pharmaceutical University (CPU, 中国药科大学) was originally founded in 1936 under the name of National Pharmaceutical School when Nanking (Nanjing) was the national capital of the Republic of China. The university is the first independent school of pharmacy approved by the Ministry of Education of the State Council of China and is listed in China’s prestigious Project 211.
* Project 211 is a national program approved by the Chinese government that was started in 1995. The government substantially and intensively invests in about 100 prestigious universities selected from 1,794 higher learning institutions nationwide to improve their overall capacity. |

History and Heritage
|
After the establishment of the People’s Republic of China, CPU was renamed as Nanjing Pharmaceutical College. By merging the planned new institution, the Nanjing Pharmaceutical College of Chinese Medicine, CPU was renamed in 1986 with the current designation.
The university has four campuses and three of them are located in the urban area of Nanjing. The new campus that is now under construction is in Jiangning District of Nanjing and will open to undergraduates soon with fully equipped teaching facilities in an ecological environment.
CPU is comprised of seven schools, two departments and thirteen research institutions, including facilities for research of Traditional Chinese Pharmacy and Pharmacognosy. The university is dedicated to educations for undergraduate, graduate and post-doc in pharmaceutical sciences and technologies. CPU is the only university which is authorized by the Ministry of Education to accept international students in the pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences and technologies.
The university has a workforce of 1,300 teaching and research staff and professorships, including 2 most respected academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. CPU has established an extensive international cooperation network and sponsors many exchange programs with more than 30 international academic institutions or universities from Japan, the United States, Britain, Italy, etc. Its graduates are highly demanded by both public and private sectors.
The university’s current president is Dr. Xiaoming Wu, a professor and leading scientist in the field of medicinal chemistry. |
